In a significant operation, the Sector-24 police in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, apprehended a criminal during a late-night encounter on Friday near the Regional Transport Office (RTO).
The suspect sustained a gunshot wound to his leg as police returned fire during the incident.
Authorities recovered a homemade firearm, ammunition, and a motorcycle from the arrested individual. Deputy Commissioner of Police for Zone One, Yamuna Prasad, reported that the police had set up a checkpoint near the RTO office in Sector-33 when they noticed a group of criminals approaching on a motorcycle.
When the police signaled them to stop, the suspects opened fire and attempted to flee. In response, the police fired back, injuring one of the assailants, identified as Nikhil, also known as Virana.
Nikhil, aged 24, is a resident of Dilshad Garden in Delhi. The police seized a stolen motorcycle, an illegal firearm, and ammunition from him. It was noted that he has a criminal history with multiple cases of robbery and theft registered against him in both Delhi and Gautam Buddh Nagar.
